Glendale Fire Department Recognizes Firefighters and Community Leaders

The Glendale Fire Department Annual Awards Luncheon hosted by the Glendale Sunrise Rotary Club was held recently at the Hilton Glendale. The event recognized firefighters for their acts of bravery, and community members for their volunteer efforts. Marilyn and Sheldon Baker earned the Service Award Above Self Award for their involvement in community organizations. Baker served on Glendale’s City Council, completing two terms and serving as Glendale’s mayor in 1996—1997. He also was a member of the Glendale Unified School District Board of Education, serving as president for three terms. Marilyn served as President of the American Field Service and has been a host mom for four exchange students—each for a year period, living with the Bakers. She is active in PEO and served in the National Charity League.

Also recognized with the Distinguished Service Award: Firefighter and paramedic Chris Mays, dedicated to working with Glendale Healthy Kids, Spark of Love Toy Drive and the GFD Christmas Family programs; Engineer Trevor Welch, coaches and volunteers at his wife’s special needs school and Captain Jeff Ragusa, is involved in Strategic Goals project and the Standard Operating Guidelines project.
